The Wedding of Kadijah and Tory was recently published in the February issue of ESSENCE magazine. They are featured in a story about, "Finding love at any age". Kadijah and Tory have been chosen as the 30's couple!!!!! Special thank you to those involved who made this happen, especially to our fellow friend and blogger who featured their story first on Black Bridal Bliss. CaSaundra and Brandon

I met CaSaundra (and her business partner Jackie) two years ago at at a Starbucks. The reason for our meeting was to discuss a logo for their non-profit, CAN Dream. After several cups of piping hot and ooooh so good coffee, we got down to business. Had I known this was going to be a platform of services to come, I would have worn my "swagger" cologne. You know...when a briefcase and talent just aren't enough...sometimes you just have to fill the room with some good man stank........(yep, i just said good man stank). Anywho the relationship was formed, and we hit it off. I was able to deliver to them a solid person to work with and lean on for their creative needs. A year and some change later, I received a second call/request...........from CaSaundra, in regards to her Wedding. *I smiled and thought, "aint no business like good word of mouth good people business!

The wedding was to be celebrated in DC, on a beautiful Fall Day in October. Beautiful it was.............Fall, it was not. Sadly, on this day, the sky decided to open up and shower down snow/rain/sleet and anything else it could think of. It was a bummer. Much like when our planned engagement session got shut down due to bad weather and President Obama's issued "State of Emergency". ...................................................(pause for WTF and OMG facial expressions). I mean seriously, it was the ONLY day in October....that snowed! That snowed LIKE THAT!. (where's my hot tottie)

But folks thats pretty much all that happened that I would consider headache moments. The rest was simply spllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeendid. CaSaundra and Brandon had secured the Ritz Carlton Hotel, and were celebrated with some boot tracking friends and family...who weren't going to miss out on a heck of a time.

Dear 2011 (Happy New Year)

Dear 2011,

Thank you for an amazing year. In this past year, I established new business connections, stronger friendships, growing partnerships, and overall a more positive outlook about myself. There were plenty of challenges that were presented; some were met and easily conquered, while others left me with lessons learned. I began this photography venture shortly after the passing of my grandmother in 2006, as a springboard to get out there and do more with my life. I was inspired to tackle something different; to work to create art and not just live in it.

Well six years later, I can proudly say...I am doing it. And with all of you guys, thankfully not alone. Being a photographer allows me to live out my dreams - dare to hope, and challenge myself to be a better person. For this, I'm thankful. However, I realize without the love, happiness, and support of clients who believe in my ability, I'm nothing.

To end every year, I often celebrate with a wonderful party at my house and open the doors to anyone who wants to ring in the New Year with Mr. Poteat. This year, I had the pleasure of meeting many new folks, and of course some of my regular buddies. I hope you enjoy viewing these pictures, as much as we had taking them.......................................and there were a lot taken. Happy New Year!!!

Michelle & Scott's Maternity Shoot

I met Michelle and Scott, thru one of my dearest friends. Scott is a libra (like me), and Michelle is amazing (like me), so......the awesomeness of us producing such an amazing shoot was DESTINED. DESSSSSSSSSSSTIIIIIIIIIIIINED! Now, a little disclaimer, since this shoot...baby lucas has been born, has tested out of second grade, and is preparing to take his first date to the ice cream parlor..........sike!(basically, i am hella late in posting this amazing shoot). Buuuuuuuuuut, the wait is well worth it. Thanks again Deel Family, it was a pleasure to be a part of such a special moment.

Nikki & Rufus Wedding

I entered the room and heard, "Hey Lucky"...(an old college nickname I used to go by while attending U. Pittsburgh). There she sat, radiant and beaming from ear to ear as she waited for Beaute to do her make-up. The room was packed with gorgeous women -also known as her Bridesmaides - and the Bride herself was not to be outdone.

Her dress by Mori Lee hung in the corner of the SOFITEL suite in downtown, Philadelphia. The couple chose to have their before pictures taken at the Hotel before hoping in their caravans of love...and heading over to the outdoor ceremony, at Curtis Hall, in Wyncote, PA The weather couldn't have been more perfect....and as a photographer shooting outside, This is one of those #SWEETJESUSHALLEILUJAH for not raining on the parade type of moments.

After a few formalities, and a couple of "hey haven't seen you in a while" I picked up my camera and began doing what seemed effortless---capturing an absolutely beautiful woman marrying a handsome man, in a ceremony I will never forget.

They say, like father like daughter.........well, i think they say it??? Point is---you would think this was a magazine shoot, as stylish as both of them look. Dad escorting his daughter, and daughter beaming at the sight of her soon-to-be husband.

This is that moment that I looooove capturing, it's......."The Look". As a groom, I'd imagine it hard to put into words, how you felt the moment she turned the corner, the doors openned, or while she was walking down the aisle to meet you. If I had to guess, what was on Rufus's mind............i'd say, "winnnnnnnning".

I love this bridal party picture.....it really captures the mood and feel of the day. Relaxed, casual, and stylish.

Tekeah & Tron Engagement Session

Every now and then, you meet a couple that looks in you the eye.... squares up shoulder to shoulder, and screams-----"CHALLENGE!" Well, i am exaggerating a bit here, but this couple's engagement shoot definitely challenged my comfort zone (ummmmmmm shooting in the forest of Nottingham -- filled with bugs, mosquito's, and slavelikeheat). Was I prepared for the heat...of course not. Was I prepared for the bugs flying in my face as i tried to get a good shot...nope. Was I even prepared for the sweat staining my eyelids and making me create a funk unGodly---no no no. BUT, what i was prepared for, is to shoot a longtime friend---Tekeah, her fiance--Tron, in what I deem an AMAZING EXPERIENCE IN CHALLENGING CONDITIONS PRODUCING ART THAT IS MOVING AND LONGLASTING... copyright that :)

All in all, I am extremely elated and proud to have documented such a shoot---and such a dynamic couple. They kept me moving, and inspired the whole time while out in-----Nottingham. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this session, and i hope you do as well.

So the story goes like this........i met a wonderful MUA on a client set, and her and I got to talking....u know (blah, blah, blah, yakkity, smakity---we should work together on something uber fun). She mentioned red wig. carnival. and hotness...and i was on board! Here is what we created in a short span of time. I will give full credit to the style/make-up/artistic direction of this shoot to Evie (The Eyes Have-it) . This is a little out of the ordinary for your boy, but i def. had fun while shooting....afterall, who doesn't like the carnival

Bending the Cosmos Fashion Shoot

Folks this was my most challenging shoot to date. Not because of the acutal shooting, but what happened behind the scenes leading up to it. We titled it, "Bending the Cosmos", A shoot that should really have been titled, the stars are STRUUUUUUUUUUGGGLIN to align. Let me tell you what happened. The team and I had agreed on a model to use for an uber creative fashion story. The date was set, and we had the extreme benefit of partnering up with THE SO SO TALENTED Celebrity/Make-up stylist Victor Price and BANGING BOUTIQUE OWNER, shannon from Junction of 1510 u street.

Anywho....back to the story:

Everything was set for sunday at 11am to bang this one out of the park. We were going to do 6 complete looks---shoes, clothes, accessories...you know THE WORKS!. Being the social guy that I am, i went out the night before...and prob had a lil TOO much to drink. I blame that on my friends/wedding clients for celebrating a lil too hard at District and getting mr. poteat a lil loose on the goose :) After an enjoyable "classy"--[snicker snicker] evening, I stroll in my house at say...3am, get an EMAIL from the model of the shoot we're suppose to have in 8 hours.

"I'm so sorry but I'm sick so much and i can't stand up from my bed, I feel bad myself so much(((("

This is a direct quote ya'll. The girl is russian, so please excuse the grammar. LIVID, i was! How you gonna cancel on a shoot scheduled at 11am at 3am via email! A mess, and in the words of some famous fashion person, "she'll never work in this town again...lol, i kid. i kid. But i do hope she has a very challenging time finding additional work. THANNNKFULLY, i remembered SMART agency. i had worked with them on a magazine ad shoot in atlanta, ga. I contact them, plead my heart out of being out of a model, and potentially at risk of utter embarrassment. THEY SAVED THE DAY...at 4am on sunday. i had a new model ready to go at 4:30am..and it was business as usual. I swear, mr. poteat does not do drama well...but am happy to know that I have a wonderful team and a host of new friends/clients that help put out them fires when they do start smoking.

Miesha & Jon (St. Marteen Wedding)

At the end of 2010, I was granted with the opportunity to shoot one of my former classmates/friends Jon Suber and his lovely bride to be--Miesha. They were to be wed on December 4, 2010 on the beautiful island of St. Marteen. Now, a couple things i need to mention; it was dead of winter, it was my last wedding of the year, and most importantly :) your boy mr. poteat was not hitting the gym in prep for beach lounging!! So outside of shooting an amazing event, i was a lil scurred about floating in my trunks in the blue lagoon.....lol. Silly me. Moving on...*while eating a fresh baked oatmeal raisin cookie.

Jon and Miesha's wedding had to be hands down one of the best wedding experiences for me. Simply because, it was a 80+ attended destination wedding, and all the people who were on dock were hella-amazing! I damn near forgot i was working, because it just seemed like i was shooting and hanging with family and my friends the entire time. The weather was gorgeous, the scenery was breathtaking, and....i know i said it before, the experience WAS one of the best. Cheers to the happy couple for such a memorable weekend.

This here wedding party WAS DOING IT. I leaned on my fashion shooting side, and just told everyone to pose, pose, pose....make love to the camera....give me FACE...give me DRAMA....give me LOOOOOOOOOOVE... (okay, i didnt really say all those things, but in my head...i did)

Drinking was allowed at the wedding......a lot. Nuff said.

This is one of my favorite photos of the couples first dance......just look at it. Eyes closed, mouth beaming from side to side.....and totally in a state of bliss being held by her man. *tear

There is just something about a mother/son ------------father/daughter dance that gets me everytime. I mean literally, IT GETS ME. Tears be all in my lens cap....knees be feeling all weak and stuff. Sigh, feels like i am on the lifetime channel..........i blame oprah.

Jennifer and Jeffrey Fall Engagement Shoot

My dearest friend [of 14+ years] in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, Jennifer Lucy Schumpert is getting married ya'll! So it was certainly a pleasure for me to be asked (cough *told* cough) to take some simply amazing photos of her and her fiance---Mr. Jeffrey Tyler. Now, me and Jeff aren't strangers to one another, a year prior to this shoot, Jennifer bought him a photography pacakge from me----and there was our introduction to one-another. And folks if you've seen Jennifers's face a few times on my blog, website, e-alerts, facebook thread........then yea, U KNOW SHE'S not shy when it comes to pictures--or working with me. I love her so, because she is a true friend and one my faithful supporters.......(feeling a sappy emotional moment coming on [turns off this darn luther vandross playing in the background]. Woooo, that was close. Back to the post folks, your boy Mr. Poteat almost had a weak moment thinking about how wonderful and truely happy he is for Jennifer and Jeff......I mean, thru the years, the transformations, the transitions, the drama.....(damn,....its hitting me again).

[Pull it together leonard, you got people watching you...and you aint no punk---pounds chest]. RIGHT!

(pause) I.am.happy.for.her.

As for the groom-to-be...Mr. Jeffrey! He is a burst of summer camp energy, which IMO is a GREAT balance to Jennifers...........ummmmm "not summer campy energy" ?? In Jeff's courtship with Jennifer, he has proven to me...(and I am sure to a lot of others), what patience, determination, and a virtuous spirit can lead you to....(being shot by me twice!) i kid, i kid. No, in all seriousness, Jeff is a great partner to my friend, and i am thankful to be a part of their journey. PLUS!! The two of them together makes a helluva post...i mean c'mon...DON'T THESE TWO LOOK GOOOOD together! ........

Dynamic Duo Audrey and Kierr

This shoot here..... This shoot, was the shoot that got my behind out of bed at 5 a.m. on a saturday....AFTER A LONG WEEK.....................(dramatic pause). A VERY LONG WEEK YA'LL (another dramatic pause)....................... Ok. Now, that I got that off my chest, I will say that this couple HERE...were definetly worth it. Both Audrey and Kierr were such a burst of energy, i forgot how tired i was. Naw, thats a lie. How about they MORE than made up for it, for being soooo much fun! I am really looking forward to their special wedding day. From what I am told, its going to be like the Obama Inagauration up in that joint!!! family n friends from south kakalaki...north kakalaki.....west kakalaki.....(i kid i kid). So Mr. Poteat better load up on my 5 hour energy drinks before. But folks, in all honestly, it was a good time on this engagement shoot. We shot at the National Harbor! I've previously shot there in the past, but never to the lenghts of this shoot..... laying in grass, laying on wet concrete, laying on a pier with bird crap all over it........................(another dramatic pause). AND YOU KNOW WHY I DID IT.............CUZ I LOVE WHAT I DO :) and nothing completes me more, than doing it for a glowing, absolutely fabulous couple !

Dee and Tory

This is hands down, ONE OF MY FAVORITE PICS!!! Sorry, I know that's a sidebar to a complete post about the budding couple Dee and Tory. But hell, its my blog and....well, i make the rules. Moving on.........the lovely lady being held above is Dee. She and I met a little over a year ago at her sister's wedding---Natisha. Shortly after the wedding, I received a very complimentary e-mail requesting me as HER wedding photographer! Can you say "LOVES IT" any louder. Dee has to be the most sweet and easy going person i've met. And as for her husband........well, he's a perfect match.

Anywho, they decided to wed on a beautiful August evening...emphasis on BEAUTIFUL. The weather couldn't have been sweeter to Mr. Poteat if. Me and fellow photographer, Alex Sanchez were in for an experience.... A lovely set of images and moments to capture. It was such an honor being their. Thank you again, Dee and Tory.

Faith and Al

Our courting session began....hmmmm, i would say AT LEAST A YEAR IN ADVANCE....And by courting, i mean....She (faith) called me (leonard), and asked would I shoot her wedding. Date was TBD, location TBD, details...TBD. All that was important was that she wanted me to be her photographer for when all those pesky details did actually come to light. That made my heart smile from the beginning, as I am very appreciative to be here showing you ...what i witnessed on that beautiful day---June 26th. I know I say this often, but this couple made me smile the entire time shooting.

Her style was vintage chic, her swagger was definetly saying ...."its' my day". Why? Because Faith looked absolutely gorgeous on "her day".

This pretty much sums up what I was working with the entire wedding....AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AND FUN COUPLE... (claps real loud)

Meet Gregory and Felicia....I must have been very tied up, that I never posted their engagement pictures...we took while strolling along Washington Memorial park in Baltimore, Md...so this will be a two part posting...some of their engagements....and BAM, wedding photos! Talk about a two for one special!!!! Anywho, this couple was very special to me...as they were referred to me by the daughter of the bride (aka my poetry bandit). Shooting them was like shooting a couple that's been in love for ever. I told them to imagine themselves on a simple date/stroll in the park...what would you do? How would you interract with one another ....and PLEASE FORGET ABOUT THE BALD GUY HOLDING THE CAMERA in ur face.

This was very much a family affair. Note: Daughter doing mother's make-up....aka teh poetry bandit i referenced earlier. Moments like these folks...are rare, and I am sooo fortunate to be able to capture them for lovely people.Grandma and her grandbabies..... (sigh, i think i am having another moment....)Now thats a first kiss!!! I am such a sucker for a sneak away moment....something voyeuristic and UTTERLY romantic about it...just makes me swoon. Meet Corrie and John (Johnson)...these two lovely love a dub bub birds came into my life by way of a Pitt alumnus/friend...GO PITT! The wedding ceremony took place on the U.Maryland campus on a blistering hot summer day. Emphasis on blistering. Along with me for this shoot, is one of my favorite second photographers ---Ms. Jenn Tyre (almeniajphotography.com). She totally rocks, and in the midst of shooting this couple---busted up her finger....(such an icky bloody sight). I know I am veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery late in posting something on this blog. Sue me, wedding season has been kicking my behind! Anywho, I would love for you all to meet my first wedding couple of the year...Gina and Jess. They got married at their parents home in a far far far far....land called, Pylesville, MD....yep, never heard of it...but def. got acquainted on my hour+ drive out in the country. Aside from the bugs exploading on my dashboard, the scenery was beautiful and calm. I arrived and BOOM...everyone was drinking. This my friends, is my type of wedding. Hands down, some of the coolest, chill people Ive had the pleasure of shooting...(wedding party and all).

This was my first attempt at documenting the love made/created by one of my couples. Meet Niya and Keon! And if you're an avid viewer of some of the work published here, you would notice that Niya---is the wardrobe stylist for some of my hottest concepts, as well as her Fiance--being a male model for one of my former shoots. So here's the skinny...these shoots are A LOT OF WORK. But A LOT OF FUN! Truth be known, watching a couple re-inact how "he approached her"....or how "she approached him"...is classic voyeurism, especially when you know IT IS GOING TO GO DOWN...eventually :)

What we captured that day to me was indicative of the amount of fun I will have capturing them on their VERY VERY SPECIAL WEDDING DAY. It’s currently 35 degrees in the Nation’s Capital, and let’s just say it’s a very somber moment. I along with two of my best friends from college have just arrived back from an extraordinary vacation in the Dominican Republic. I wanted to share with you my experience as well as some fun photos from my trip. Mainly to make you JEALOUS---I kid, I kid. No but seriously, running off a 15 minute download of the trip is going to get exhausting, since we did so much, and there is so much to tell. This should serve as a good source for when you ask---“hey, how was your trip”, me – read about it on thecloseup.blogspot.com!

How it all began, (boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy decides to take trip regardless without girl in his life and ask his fellow buddies to join him)---sound familiar to any of you SATC folks??!! While I would like to say, everything went smoothly getting there, that was certainly not the case. We were going to EARN our vacation one way or the other. And what that means was, two cancelled flights, a day early departure, a 10 hour layover, and a 2 hour runway stall before we could depart for DR. Many of this as the result of such a nasty winter season for us in the DMV, but it didn’t stop me and my friends. So I say to the blizzard of 2010---YOU LOSE

The first couple of days, we took in the sights of Santo…the galleries, stores, restaurants, bars…you know the usual. And with the weather being 85 degrees (yes, this is when the jealousy should start) we were getting some great vitamin E from our friend the Sun. Now folks, Santo Domingo isn’t for the amateur Spanish speaker---why? Cuz NO ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH!! Shout out to my Spanish teacher at Banneker HS---Mrs. Bennett, cuz she helped me make it through (choppy but thru…broken but through), along with my boy, Raheem who’s skills in speaking I think even surprised him. He did his thing, throwing in good conjunctions, and predicates, etc…..you know, YO HABLO ESPANOL….(claps real loud). However, he did have some blank moments…one in particular and quite amusing would be us driving and the taxi cab driver getting frustrated with repeating himself, says,“ You either KNOW Spanish or you DON’T KNOW Spanish”. Now that I think of it, maybe that’s the reason he dropped us soooo far from our destination…. a good mile before anything good started to pop up---so I say to the old angry Dominican Man who balked at my boy, raheem ----may your bones ache and your Ben Gay prescription run out!

Calming down---after we returned back to the apartment, we met Michael—(whom at the time came off as an Italian Mobster)—he just had that swagger that made you do what he said….C’MON BRO—“we can fk the whole town if we stayed here”… Real Talk folks! The man had people working from him round the clock, and everyone looked on edge. But don’t let him know I said that---some goons might come and wack ya boy---and that would be absolutely wretched. Ha, but anyway Michael was definitely a great connect, with 20+ years in the casino business, he was undeniably THAT DUDE. He invited us over and had his maid cook this huge lunch before taking us up the mountains and around while he checked in to his various casino stops in Puerta Plata, Las Terenas, followed by another day trip to the other side—Cabarete and Sosua. My behind still is a lil sore from riding in the back of his pickup truck for a total of 5 hours---in the middle seat mind you. Why? Cuz some folks feel the length of their legs justify being near the windows, and why I dangle, I should be the middle seat occupant. So I say to those folks (ahem Raheem and Arinze)---(……………………………. 5 TIMES). The “…..” is censored, but they know what that means!

Each night we went out, the chicas were DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, and F.R.I.E.N.D.L.Y. Some more than others….but the ones that were “more”---required what some may consider, ahhhhhhhhhh a business transaction in order to communicate. Outside of those chicas, the regular girls were more than just regular, they were O.M.G. did you see that one…what about that one….no, no…look at THAT ONE. I felt like I was being punked all these beautiful women walking around, and the only thing I could consistently say without fudging up…”Estoy un Americano, mi espanol is muy mal, tu es bonita….te quieres bailar” AND I WAS IN THERE……! I was taught the salsa, meringue, and a couple o’er moves…I can’t mention on this here blog –hee hee. So I say to all the wonderful women that we had to pleasure to meet……GRACIAS, GRACIAS, GRACIAS.

Lastly, let me tell you about one of my new found friends---Edison. He is a native from the DR, but was commuting back from another relief trip in Haiti, and wanted to show us a good time around his city before we left. The man got the car waxed, bumped, and ready---and we were off to Santiago and La Vega for an amazing CARNAVAL experience. The music was ridiculous, the costumes were amazing, and people were explosive! One thing to note about this carnival experience over any one that’ I’ve been too----(and I’ve been to a few), you will literally get the Sh*t beat out of you at this one. The masked participants/carnival ppl walk around with these rubber paddle thingies, for what point?? I don’t know folks, but if you dropped your guard, these ppl would light your little Hein parts up. It was all in good fun I suppose……I SUPPOSE… but the next time, if ever a next time…I will NOT be wearing thin fitting khaki shorts….NOPE not me. So I say to the people that actually got some good lickings off of me----I am a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, INC….THAT WAS NOTHING

We ended the trip with some R&R on the beach at Boca Chica for good food, sand, and some time in the water. We returned to the apartment to catch a happy hour and some more good times with the ladies of DR, and being the last night we were pulling out all the stops….Stops like performing “Sexy Back” at a karaoke bar. Serenading the Birthday Girls, and fooling other chics into thinking it was one of our birthdays and therefore we required special attention. The night ended with us rejoicing in the moments spent in DR, and packing up our stuff to leave and return home (to this cold a* 35 degree weather). But even during that,, that as I write…I sit and smile. So I say to everyone that helped make my first trip to the Dominican Republic such a memorable experience-----This is one story for the grandkids, thank you, thank you, thank you! –L poteat

I think I found America's Next Top Model....in miniature form. Why? Because this baby is F.I.E.R.C.E. He gave me attitude, he gave me sad....he gave me happy....he gave me mysterious, and all of this at 7 months with NO COACHING :) People, meet my new buddy Solyce. This kid was a joy to capture, as mentioned above, he never provided me a dull moment. Note to self--create bunny ears for my canon...maybe the big black glassy contraption pointing head on at a baby is not the BEST way to shoot a child. That song has absolutely nothing to do with the theme of this shoot, it just so happened to be playing while I am listening to my RnB mix on my pandora. But hey...it works, right! Now, onto this heya couple - Mously and Frantzer. I've known Mously since our days kicking the mean streets of Pittsburgh, and when I say she's grown into a fabulous woman---i mean every letter of the word F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S :) Frantzer on the other hand, is a great TEAM SPORT. I have to give the man props, simply because it was hot has ___ in Philadelphia, and because (like most men I shoot with their bride-to-be) the thought of engagement pictures were foreign to him. This along with several other items to cross off the things to do wedding list seemed to come in the truckloads. But in the end, the smiles started to come out naturally, and we were all having a sweaty good time :) Folks, this was a true testiment for why i do what i do...for the people i do it for.....IT COMPLETES ME. Makes me feel all gooey on the inside, capturing people in luvvvv. The Team and I decided to tackle a fantasy shoot for our next collaboration. And for that, we enlisted the very accomplished Jese Gary as our model. Two things to note for this shoot: it was our first plus size model shoot, and it was a first fantasy shoot.....a big task to take on----I THINK NOT! Let me just tell you, Ms. Jese threw it down, stepped on it, and kicked out something FIEROCIOUS :) As a photographer, I certainly am excited when I am working with an accomplished model, who can take direction and embellish based on their years of experience. Sometimes it pays to work and live in the place that you've grown up in. I went to school with both the Bride and Groom you see here. Many moons ago.....well, not THAT many:) Anywho, who would've know that our paths would cross again and I would be asked to capture one of their most precious moments---a Traditional African Garden Wedding. This couple was a simple joy to work with, as they were very relaxed, patient, and calm on this day. Somehow I think, a relationship close to 8+ years would do that to you. The Sparrow Wedding

On May 2, 2009 (pay not attention to the date this was posted...ima busy man:) I was granted the pleasure of being the wedding photographer for Natisha and Terry Sparrow. Now, let me tell you about these two. Natisha has spunk, has fire, has this sorta...."you mess up my photos leonard, and there's going to be trouble" type of persona. Terry on the other hand, has a calm and reserved stature. A definite good balance of the two heavily lit flames...(ahem, did I mention they have four spunky children to care for). Anywho...me and my trusty second photographer- Sanchez arrived on the scene. Me with the ladies, and Sanchez with the guys. Make-up was being served left and right...(kudos to my make-up artist Kia Darby), dresses were being draped, hair combed, and the final touches being added to make this a beautiful affair. I am not going to lie, I had some reservations as the clouds were surely testing the day with a light sprinkle, but by mid afternoon it was sunny and bright, and let us do our thizzle. (I haven't used thizzle in a minute, but that's what this session was like with the Sparrows....THIZZLING... :)

I know it's been a while, since we last posted something on this wonderful blog...thing is, we've been soo slammed. And would like to thank all of those who've been taking advantage of our freelance services. Below is the start of one of our creative journeys---Ordinary people. The thought behind this shoot, was to explore modern day simplicity and add a dab of flare. Our model for this shoot, was the lovely Angela. She was such a joy, and had the personality of --the girl next door. Not the Joey Potter type girl next door (Dawson Creek circa 90's for those who aint get that reference)...but the girl who's down for the cause, and just loves to have fun! She walked high and tall into that laundromat, carrying her basket of "unmentionables"...and in between cycles, struck a pose for us. What do think...is her look cleeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaannn or what :)

A very bad day...

So the team and I had two scheduled photo shoots. What happened leading up to that proposed time of our execution was nothing short of utter drama. All week...emphasis on ALL WEEK, there was not a drop of rain. Sunday arrives, and baaaaaaaaam, a monsoon hits. Wipes out all the hopes of us attaining our perfect double banger shoot. I will spare you the details of what these concepts were going to be, but believe me....they would've been "fierce". The team arrive for our meeting, you know to brush the dust off our shoulders and revamp for another day. There were a few choice words describing the day...(none of which appropriate for this here posting :) But what we did learn from all of this, is that we will have good days, we will have bad days...but most importantly, we stick together --- QUACK, QUACK, QUACK...(come on...classic mighty ducks quote). Anywho...enjoy the week friends, and keep coming back here. We have soo many exciting developments underway.

The teams latest photo shoot involved three men, for our piece inspired off of "The lord of the flies". If you haven't read it, saw it, then .....ugh, I guess you weren't part of the gifted and talented bunch in grade school :) I kid, I kid. Anywho, like always we look to work cohesively as a team to convey a themed shoot. This one, was right up there in terms of level of difficulty: rocks, weather, sewage, bugs, etc. But one thing was for sure, these guys DELIVERED!!.....

WHATSTHECOVER - ART-O-MATIC 2008

I went to Art-o-Matic 2008, in it's final month long weekend. If you never been, or had reservations of going because you were unsure of what to expect...you MISSED OUT! This was such an incredible experience, especially for someone like me, who continuously looks for inspiration. There were ten floors of ART ART ART...And I am not talking about that humdrum boring, sit pretty and smile type art. But more so, art that comes right outta the azz of some crazy creative folks. At the last weekends showcase, there was a presentation of Art in fashion--photographers, designers, models, etc. showcasing their collections for the public. I am not going to lie, I arrived a little late--but I HEARD IT WAS AMAZING (smile). But what I did see, were the music acts, dance acts, brazilian band act, FIRE show act, spoken word acts, etc.... Plus, the best thing about this...IS IT IS ABSOLUTELY FREE. Now, think about that the next time you're throwing $10-20 dollars to an event that doesn't even reach the levels of mental stimulization as this event does/did. Here are a couple of pics I snapped with my camera phone (sorry for the poor quality). But after a while, i put it away...and just enjoyed my visit.

The latest photo shoot by the P.I.C. team was entitled, Evicted. With all the foreclosures and whatnot going on, WHY NOT MAKE IT FASHIONABLE!!. Anywho, we decided to showcase a series of shots where the theme was...fashionable girls who were torn between the responsibilities of paying for their house AND staying fly. We used a run down house that came with its very own decoration: trash, rodents, ripped wallpaper, graffiti, etc. The shoot in itself was sooo much fun, we were laughing and posing from start to finish. I was invited last weekend, to go a launch party…A Christian Clothing Line Launch Party to be exact. The name, Andonai Branded Eternal is, “a fashion statement crafted to reach the ‘People of the Public’ via competitive high fashion that is driven by a spiritual message.” The location for this event was set at Mayorga Coffee Shop, in Washington, DC. I must admit, I was a little thrown by the choice of venue, especially given the subject matter of the line. However, my doubts were set aside as I walked in and heard the booming (Christian Rap…music), fashionista’s walking around with trendy bottoms and Jesus Symbol shirts on, Lights, Camera people, and a packed house. Very cool! Now, being caught off guard, I sauntered in there is just a polo shirt, comfy denim jeans, and some vintage brown dress boots. I was not READY…because clearly DC’s finest Christian Soldiers” were in the plizace tonight. OKAY—let’s talk about the clothes. As stated in their testimony, “conscious streetwear”. What exactly is that, well from what I observed were a simple color pallet, heavy use of white imaging, and the use of bold graffiti like words. They were eye-catching, and the models def. worked for their hourly rate—because I was buying! The only drawback for me, is that I would’ve liked to more pieces being presented, in different forms…wrist wear, socks, bags, etc., something more versatile than just t-shirts…giving you flexibility to couple with other pieces. I am not a big t-shirt guy, but I love accessories. I could see myself wearing a single button, black single breasted suit; with a BIG Jesus imprint on the socks dancing between some polished black cap toe dress shoes…in a word, “avantehauteNESS”. But sadly, that’s not an option-yet? So, final thoughts on Andonia…pretty good product, damn good message, and an excellent start to their future in the clothing industry.
